Definition of Forcible entry and detainer

A summary proceeding for restoring to possession of land by one who is wrongfully kept out or has been wrongfully deprived of the possession. Wein v. Albany Park Motor Sales Co., 312 IU.App. 357, 38 N.E.2d 556, 559. An action to obtain possession or repossession of real property which had been transferred from one to another pursuant to contract; such proceeding is not an action to determine ownership of title to property.
