Definition of Estate of Inheritance

An estate which may descend to heirs. Administration & Trust Co. v. Catron, 171 Tenn. 268, 102 S.W.2d 59, 60. A species of freehold estate in lands, otherwise called a “fee,” where the tenant is not only entitled to enjoy the land for his own life, but where, after his death, it is passed by the law upon the persons who successively represent him in perpetuum, according to a certain established order of descent.
