Definition of Equitable Abstention Doctrine

A court may refrain from exercising jurisdiction which it possesses in the interest of comity between courts and between states as in the case of actions involving the affairs of a foreign corporation or foreign land. Doctrine also applies to case of Federal court’s refraining from interfering with decision of state administrative agency’s decision on a local matter. Allegheny Airlines, Inc. v. Penn.
