Definition of DETERIORATION

Of a commodity, a constitutional hurt or impairment, involving some degeneration in the substance of the thing, such as that arising from decay, corrosion, or disintegration. The mere soiling of a commodity with sea water or other foreign substance, resulting in a purely superficial hurt or impairment removable by the simple process of cleansing, cannot be said to be "deterioration" within the ordinary meaning of that term. Rosen-Reichardt Brokerage Co. v. London Assur. Corporation, 214 Mo.App. 672, 264 S.W. 433, 436.
