Definition of DETECTIVE
One whose business it is to watch, and furnish information concerning, alleged wrongdoers by investigating their haunts and habits. One whose business it is to detect criminals or discover matters of secret and pernicious import for the protection of the public. Smith v. S. H. Kress & Co., 210 Ala. 436, 98 So. 378, 380.
