Definition of DENOUNCE

To declare (an act or thing) to be a crime arid prescribe a punishment for it. State v. De Hart, 109 La. 570, 33 So. 605. The word is also used (not technically but popularly) as the equivalent of "accuse" or "inform against."

The term is frequently used in regard to treaties, indicating the act of one nation in giving notice to another nation of its intention to terminate an existing treaty between the two nations. The French dënoncer means to declare, to lodge an information against. Bellows, Fr. Diet,
