Definition of DECIMATION
The punishing of every tenth soldier by lot, for mutiny or other failure of duty. This was termed "decimatio legionis" by the Romans. Sometimes only the twentieth man was punished, (vicesimatio,) or the hundredth, (centesimatio.)
