What is ACCUSATION? Definition of ACCUSATION in Black's Law Dictionary

A formal charge against a person, to the effect that he is guilty of a punishable offense, laid before a court or magistrate having jurisdiction to inquire into the alleged crime. Coplon v. State, 15 Ala.App. 331, 73 So. 225, 228. See Accuse.

"Accusation" is equivalent of "information" at common law which is mere allegation of prosecuting officer by whom it is preferred. Sutton v. State, 54 Ga.App. 349, 188 S.E. 60, 62.
