ACCOUNTANT GENERAL or ACCOMPTANT GENERAL
An officer of the court of chancery, appointed by act of parliament to receive all money lodged in court, and to place the same in the Bank of England for security. 12 Geo. I. c. 32; 1 Geo. IV, c. 35; 15 & 16 Vict. c. 87, §§ 18-22, 39. See Daniell, Ch.Pr. (4th Ed.) 1607 et seq. The office, however, has been abolished by 35 & 36 Vict. c. 44, and the duties transferred to her majesty's paymaster general.
