Definition of Yick Wo doctrine
Doctrine which takes its name from the case of Yick Wo v. Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356, 6 S.Ct. 1064, 30 L.Ed. 220, to the effect that a law or ordinance which gives a person or body of persons absolute discretion to give or withhold permission to carry on a lawful business is in violation of the 14th Amendment, U.S. Const.
