Definition of DEFEAT

To prevent, frustrate, or circumvent; as in the phrase "hinder, delay, or defeat creditors." Coleman v. Walker, 3 Mete., Ky., 65, 77 Am.Dec. 163; Reuff-Griffin Decorating Co. v. Wilkes, 191 S.W. 443, 446, 173 Ky. 566.

To overcome or prevail against in any contest; as in speaking of the "defeated party" in an action at law. Wood v. Bailey, 21 Wall. 642, 22 L.Ed. 689. Or "defeated candidate" in an election. Norcop v. Jordan, 216 Cal. 764, 17 P.2d 123, 124.

To annul, undo, or terminate; as, a title or estate. See Defeasible.
