Definition of Extraordinary
Out of the ordinary; exceeding the usual, average, or normal measure or degree; beyond or out of the common order or rule; not usual, regular, or of a customary kind; remarkable; uncommon; rare. Courtney v. Ocean Accident & Guaranty Corporation, 346 Mo. 703, 142 S.W.2d 858, 861. The word is both comprehensive and flexible in meaning. Beyond or out of the common order or method; exceeding the ordinary degree; not ordinary; unusual; employed for an exceptional purpose or on a special occasion. As a noun it is defined as something extraordinary, especially, an extraordinary expense or allowance. State v. Rogers, 142 Kan. 841, 52 P.2d 1185, 1195.
Extraordinary designates an accident, casualty, occurrence or risk of a class or kind other than those which ordinary experience or prudence would foresee, anticipate or provide for. Western & Atlantic Ry. Co. v, Hassler, 92 Ga.App. 278, 88 S.E.2d 559, 562.
