Definition of Extent In Aid
In old English law, that kind of extent which issued at the instance and for the benefit of a debtor to the crown for the recovery of a debt due to himself. This writ was much abused, owing to some peculiar privileges possessed by crown-debtors, and its use was regulated by Stat. 57 Geo. Ill, c. 117. 3 Bl.Comm. 419. Abolished by Crown Proceedings Act (1947). The writ formerly used by a debtor of the king against his debtor to enforce the right of preference given to him because of his indebtedness to the king. United States Fidelity & Guaranty Co. v. Carter, 161 Va. 381, 170 S.E. 764, 768.
