In civil  law,  those  chosen by the emperor to argue his cause whenever a question arose affecting his revenues. 3 Bla. Comm. 27. Advocates of the fisc, or revenue; fis- cal advocates, (qui  causam  fisci  egissent.)  Cod. 2, 9, 1; Cod. 2, 7, 13. Answering, in some measure, to the king's counsel in English law.
